Three sectors make a difference
‘Governance is people development’

ONE got scathed by a scandal and banded together more than 15 organizations to create a truly caring profession. The other stepped into the boardrooms and lead companies toward the road to good corporate governance. Another showed what good packaging can do to make a difference in people’s lives.

These three models represent three of the nine sectoral organizations toeing the Governance Pathway and adopting good governance practices. They are: the Philippine nursing profession (PGS Compliant), the Institute of Corporate Directors or ICD (PGS Proficient), and the Foundation for People Development and The North Food Exchange (PGS Initiated).

The three joined other sectors whose collective plans contribute to the Philippines 2030 Road Map unveiled at the MKAP Forum last year. The other sectors are: the youth, academe, business, media, civic and professional organizations, labor, the Church, and the military.

The three sectoral organizations presented their road maps and scorecards at the Mahal Ko Ang Pilipinas Public Governance Forum last August 30 at Sofitel Philippine Plaza.

ICD: Steady anchor in business

ICD, the sister company of the Institute for Solidarity in Asia (ISA), MKAP Forum convenor, has taken on the lead as the sectoral anchor for the business

community. Jonathan Juan DC Moreno, executive director, said ICD offers companies consultancy and training programs on how to implement the balanced scorecard in the corporate setting to promote good governance in their organizations.

ICD has already signed memoranda of understanding with the Ateneo de Manila University, the Philippine Stock Exchange and the Securities and Exchange Commission to institutionalize the scorecard. The next step is to design a personal governance scorecard by February 2008, he said.

For companies, the process begins with an initiation into the system, holding an orientation
